MacKenzie Scott, Ex-Wife Of Jeff Bezos, Has Donated $4 BILLION To Help Those Affected By Pandemic
MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, has announced that she’s donated more than $4 billion to help those affected by the pandemic.
Scott wrote on Medium that she’s given away nearly $4.2 billion to 384 organizations across the US in the past four months.
“This pandemic has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling,” writes Scott, “Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires.”
She asked a team of advisors to help her as she sought to give immediate support to those being affected by the economic crisis.
“I asked a team of advisors to help me accelerate my 2020 giving through immediate support to people suffering the economic effects of the crisis,” she said. “The result over the last four months has been $4,158,500,000 in gifts to 384 organizations across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C.”
The news comes as she continues her quest to give away much of her wealth since her $38 billion divorce settlement with Jeff Bezos.
“We each come by the gifts we have to offer by an infinite series of influences and lucky breaks we can never fully understand,” Scott wrote on Giving Pledge. “In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
